Drosit-30

This medication is a combination oral contraceptive, commonly known as a “birth control pill,” containing two female hormones: a progestin (Drospirenone) and an estrogen (Ethinyl Estradiol). It is primarily used to prevent pregnancy. When taken correctly, it works by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during the menstrual cycle, thickening vaginal fluid to prevent sperm from reaching an egg, and changing the lining of the uterus to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg.

In addition to contraception, this combination is also prescribed to treat moderate acne in women who are at least 14 years old and have started menstruating, and to alleviate the symptoms of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), a severe form of PMS.

Uses

  • Contraception: For the prevention of pregnancy.
  • Acne Treatment: To treat moderate acne vulgaris in women who also desire oral contraception.
  • Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD): To help relieve the emotional and physical symptoms associated with PMDD.
  • Menstrual Regulation: Can lead to more regular, lighter, and less painful menstrual periods.

Key Benefits

  • Highly Effective Contraception: Provides a reliable method of birth control when taken as directed.
  • Hormonal Balance: The combination of hormones helps regulate the menstrual cycle.
  • Improved Skin: Effectively reduces acne by decreasing the amounts of certain natural substances in the body that can cause acne.
  • Symptom Relief: Can significantly reduce symptoms of PMDD, such as severe depression, irritability, and tension.
  • Reduced Menstrual Discomfort: Often results in lighter, less painful periods and may reduce the risk of ovarian cysts.

How to Use

  • Take one tablet orally at the same time each day. Follow the order indicated on the blister pack.
  • This medication can be taken with or without food. Taking it after your evening meal or at bedtime may help reduce nausea.
  • For the medication to be effective, it is crucial to take it consistently. Do not skip doses.
  • Most packs contain 21 active tablets and 7 inactive (reminder) tablets, or are taken for 21 days followed by a 7-day break. Follow the specific instructions provided with your pack.
  • If you miss a dose, refer to the patient information leaflet in the package or contact your doctor or pharmacist for guidance, as you may need to use a back-up contraceptive method (like condoms).

Safety & Precautions

Important Warning: Cigarette smoking dramatically increases the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects from oral contraceptives. This risk increases with age and the number of cigarettes smoked. Women over 35 who smoke should not use this medication.
